NEET UG 2023

NEET UG 2023 – National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Under Graduates

NEET-UG, the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Undergraduates, is an entrance exam administered by the CBSE (now the National Testing Agency, or NTA) on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Medical Science in India. Starting in 2017, it replaced State Level Medical Entrance Tests as well as CBSE’s AIPMT. The purpose of the test is to admit aspiring candidates to the undergraduate medical courses of MBBS and BDS throughout India.

Beginning in 2019, NEET-UG will be taken online and twice a year, in February and May. A merit list will be prepared based on NEET-UG scores, which will be used for admission to nearly 355 recognized MBBS colleges and 300 BDS colleges. However, state quotas and reservations in medical colleges will remain intact, as the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test will create separate merit lists for General Category, SC, ST, OBC, and PD candidates at both national and state levels. Furthermore, NEET-UG will not interfere with the management quota of private medical and dental colleges.

Although NEET-UG applies to most medical colleges in India, there are some exclusions, including AIIMS – All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER-Chandigarh). These institutions were established by separate laws and will be exempt from NEET-UG’s purview.
