The Indian Maritime University (IMU) Kolkata is a specialized campus offering maritime education and is one of the six regional campuses of IMU, with others located in Chennai, Mumbai, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, and Kandla. The IMU Kolkata was established as the Directorate of Marine Engineering Training (DMET) in 1949 by the Government of India and later rebranded as Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI) in 1995. With the formation of IMU in 2008, MERI became a part of IMU and is now known as the IMU Kolkata Campus. The campus is home to two renowned institutions: the Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI, Kolkata) and the Indian Institute of Port Management (IIPM, Kolkata).
