About Indian Institute of Technology – IIT Gandhinagar:

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN), established in 2008, is one of the newest IITs in India. Mentored by IIT Bombay, IITGN is located in Ahmedabad, known for its thriving industries, excellent infrastructure, and dynamic academic and research institutes. The Institute currently operates out of the premises of the Vishwakarma Government Engineering College and offers top-notch facilities, including classrooms, laboratory spaces, and faculty offices.

IITGN offers undergraduate and Ph.D. programs in Engineering, Sciences, and Humanities & Social Sciences. Its 4-year B.Tech. program is available in Chemical, Electrical, and Mechanical engineering branches, and its Ph.D. program is offered in multiple disciplines including Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, English, Philosophy, and Sociology.

IITGN follows the specialized semester-based academic system, with two semesters in an academic year (Autumn and Spring). The undergraduate curriculum is based on that of IIT Bombay, with modifications, and the courses of study bulletin provides the curricula and syllabi for the B.Tech. degree. The first two semesters are common to all disciplines, while the remaining curricula are discipline-oriented.

• A taxi ride would cost about Rs 250/- from the airport.
• The most common transportation is an auto rickshaw. Typical fare from Ahmedabad railway station to Chandkheda by auto rickshaw is Rs. 70 to Rs. 80.

Facilities

IIT Gandhinagar provides various facilities for its students including: accommodation, food services, library, IT facilities, sports, medical facilities, P.O and banking facility, extra-curricular activities, laboratories and an “Earn while you learn” programme. The institute also provides internship opportunities for students, such as at Johns Hopkins University and Underwriter’s Laboratories Inc. The institute offers healthy food options and a library with required texts and references. IT facilities include computer terminals and internet access in both the institute and the student hostel. There are also various sports facilities and grounds for activities such as football, cricket, volleyball, basketball, and indoor games like badminton and table tennis. Additionally, the institute offers medical facilities through OPD and has arrangements with top hospitals in the area. The students can also participate in extra-curricular activities through academic clubs and cultural events. The “Earn while you learn” programme allows students to work and earn money while gaining experience in administrative operations. The institute provides internship opportunities for students in the US and with Washington University in St Louis.
