IIM Andhra now renamed as IIM Visakhapatnam is the first among the 6 proposed new IIMs whose permanent and temporary campuses were finalized at Visakhapatnam even before the location sites for other proposed IIMs were announced. It is a business school and its first batch of Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Management was scheduled to start from August 2015. However, due to certain reasons, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Visakhapatnam will start operations from September 14, as per news report dating 10th August 2015. IIMV will operate out of the Andhra Bank School of Business on the Andhra University campus till its own premises come up at Gambheeram on the outskirts of city, in about 3 years time. The campus is slated to come up on a 400 acre area. The institute has started groundwork for its activities under the guidance and mentorship of IIM Bangalore. The land acquisition for the permanent campus is almost complete. The foundation stone for the new campus was laid by Union Human Resource Development Minister, Smriti Irani on 7th January 2015.
