The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Amritsar is a premier institution for management education, established in 2015. It is one of the 19 public IIMs in India, and is recognized as an autonomous institute under the Indian Societies Registration Act. IIM Amritsar is the 15th IIM to be set up in India and is overseen by the IIM Council, which is headed by the Minister of Human Resource Development and comprises of the chairpersons and directors of all IIMs and senior officials from the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
IIM Amritsar operates from a transit campus within the Punjab Institute of Technology, providing students with access to classrooms, recreational spaces, activity rooms, a library, computer and sports facilities. The permanent campus of IIM Amritsar is proposed to be built on 60 acres of flatland near Manawala on the Amritsar-Jalandhar GT Road and will be mentored by IIM Kozhikode for the first three years or until IIM Amritsar is able to manage operations on its own.
The Institute offers only the Post Graduate Program in Management and admissions are through the Common Admission Test (CAT), followed by GD/WAT and PI. Faculty members from IIM Kozhikode deliver courses at IIM Amritsar. The Institute also provides hostel facilities for boys and girls, which are located at different locations and include basic amenities like fans, lockable wardrobes, beds, pillows, mattresses, study tables, and chairs. Students must bring their own bedsheets and other personal items.
Reaching IIM Amritsar is convenient with regular buses that run from the railway station every 10-15 minutes during the day time. Students can take any bus going via Guru Nanak Dev University and get off at the Government Polytechnic Road bus stop, which is just one stop after the Guru Nanak Dev University main gate. From there, it’s a 0.5 km ride by auto to reach the IIM Amritsar transit campus.
