About Senate of Serampore College University :

The Senate of Serampore College University is a higher education institution established in 1818 by Danish Christian missionaries in West Bengal, India. It was originally established as a college to instruct Indian youth in Christianity and the sciences and was later incorporated as a university by a Royal Charter from Danish King Frederick VI. The College Council, headed by the Master of the College, holds final authority in all matters related to the institution. Serampore College offers theological degrees and diplomas, with degrees in Arts, Science, and Commerce offered through the University of Calcutta. Its programs are designed for the non-Roman Catholic churches in India and its graduates often become priests. The college coat of arms features a cross, bible, and pelican of piety, with the motto “Gloriam Sapientes Possidebunt” which means “Glory to the Blessed”. The university does not accept students from outside India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh but does admit NRI students.

Department

Theology.  

SCEPTRE is a program center of the Senate of Serampore College University, located in Kolkata, aimed at promoting theological education and ministry practices. It offers BCS and Dip. CS courses, as well as the Doctor of Ministry program, a field research and in-service training degree for pastors and those in diverse ministry. SCEPTRE provides facilities for scholars and institutions, including accommodations, seminar rooms, and a library.

The Department of Research, overseen by the Senate of Serampore College University, coordinates and guides doctoral-level research with the support of the Committee for Research and doctoral students. It also organizes programs to strengthen the relationship between theological education and churches, and promotes interdisciplinary connections between church and society. The department facilitates non-formal research through consultations, seminars, conferences, symposia, and research projects.
